External Impacts On The Yanomami Tribe

The Yanomami are being affected by many different external impacts.  Some of these external impacts that affect the Yanomami are good and some are bad.

A few of the positive external impacts that the outside world is having on the Yanomami are, how the explorers are coming into their jungle and supplying the tribes with things like pots, pans and clothing.  Roads are being built to help the army and other forces to get into the area in the Amazon where the Yanomami live. The tribes are also learning new things, finding more resourceful ways of doing things (like cooking and farming)  and outsiders  are helping the Yanomami.

Sadly there are a lot more negative external impacts than positive. Some of the most harmful external impacts are, gold mining, illegal land taking, ranching, deforestation and diseases.  These may not seem harmful to us, but because the Yanomami have not had any experience with diseases  such as Measles, Chickenpox, Dengue and others, these  can kill a Yanomami in a matter of days! If people continue mining, taking land, ranching, logging and giving the Yanomami diseases the tribes will eventually become extinct.
